Rachel…

Introducing to the new line…Rachel!  I designed Rachel, because I love big bags, I often say, ” I’m a bag lady.”  I like them big, to make a bold statement.  So I designed a more hobo inspired bag with lots of leather detailing and lots of attitude.  Rachel has one handle for easy lifting and the gold rings for hardware.  She has plenty of room because she has a leather gusset that is 4 inches wide.  Rachel is my new favorite style, combining size, ease, and detail.  And she is already popular with sales already happening, which reinforces she is a keeper!  I even kept the first one and didn’t even put it up for sale, I had to have her to show off quickly!  As for the name?  Rachel is my twin sister’s friend who teaches with her. She is atheletic, a risk-taker and larger than life, so I knew I needed a bag after her and this one fit the bill.

Shakopee Weekend…

I am just very excitedto road trip this weekend with my twin sister, Sarah, to the Spring Festival in Shakopee MN on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  We always have a good time together and I love selling the new styles and fabrics for spring. Plus, Sarah and I have so much fun just dressing up and looking springy ;) If you are in the area, please stop and see us!  We will have also have at least 5 of the “Olive Dress” with us to buy as well.  If you need directions or times they are open for the festival, please email me and I will get that information to you quickly!  Hope to see you there!

I got a phone call on Sunday that will be a first for Rebekah Scott Designs.  I sold a Pretty Megan to a gal in Watertown SD, Jodi Loehrer, and she decided after she got it, she really did want a button closure instead of one with a zipper.  So I told her, no worries, just send it back to me and I will sew one with a button closure instead.  Well, she went to mail it back at the post office and the post-woman wanted to see it first.  Jodi mentioned she had it all taped up, but the post-woman was insistent she get to see it before it was sent out.  Well she ended up falling in love, and she bought the bag right then and there!  I love this story, now that is a first!  Thanks Jodi for being such great advertising!

I have one more story that is encouraging to hear.  This weekend at an art show I ran into a gal who ordered three cosmetic bags from her home in Colorado.  She stopped to say how pleased she was that the cosmetic bags came so quickly and were just made exactly like they were featured on the website.  Sometimes we can’t always duplicate the ribbon detail, but this time we could do it on all three, and she was so excited and pleased with her order.   So good to hear, and it reinforced we are always trying to please our customers!

This week I am ordering more fabric for some new colors and some more inspiration.    Can’t wait to see what they look like made up.  I spoke with my very talented website designer and she said the new improved website will be here soon!  It is so cool, so very chic and updated.  Just seeing some sample pages,  gave me encouragement for new and bigger things to come!

On a family note, I just cut both my husband’s and son’s hair, and wow was it a hair cutting party!  Everyone got stickers- if they both behaved.  And no, I didn’t exactly cut Gus’ hair like a really good beautician would, but he still got a sticker and he doesn’t know any different!

Exciting things…

I know you hear that a lot from me…exciting things, but I really do always feel like I have exciting things happening. I love my job, I love the people it has brought into my life, I love the lifestyle it gives me and I love designing new things every day.

You may remember me mentioning I have a little girl dress. Well now I have some done, they are adorable and will be posted to the website very soon!  Here is a sneak peek of what is in store.  She is called ” The Olive Dress.”  I love making them and I can really see some cute little girls out there sporting them.

I am gearing up for Chamberlain SD event  this next weekend. We will be there for the ‘ladies escape” event.  There is a pajama party on Friday night, and I can’t wait to sport my red and white polka-dotted long johns to “rev-up” the spirit of things!!!  Next, we, (my twin sister and I) head to Shakopee MN, for the Spring Festival.  We have our same booth location, so if you need time, place or directions, simply email me and I will get back asap of where to go. We have 6 new styles, and lots of new “extras” as well, so be sure to come and shop the new fabrics and styles.

We had a passion group meeting just this last Friday, and the meetings are so motivating for me.  I have a couple of friends of mine that get together and brainstorm on our businesses and really cheer one another on. This last one was really motivating, can’t wait to see what I will invent out of that meeting, I always think of something new.

So that’s what new for RSDesigns right now. We are happily awaiting the Women’s Inc Magazine cover to come out and looking forward to having some business drummed up ;)  Stay tuned for new styles and spring fabrics fast approaching also.  Happy Spring!

My Guest Speaking Experience….

Hello all!

What a fun day. I got to speak at a law office today for their women’s luncheon in Sioux Falls and it was really fun and inspiring actually. I met women from every sort of business: lawyers, nurses, motivational speakers, bank presidents, and accountants.   I felt a little out of place because I am on the creative side of things while many of them are on the analytical side of things, however I am sure they are creative also!

It was fascinating meeting with them and speaking to these lovely ladies.  I got the best feedback and some great new ideas.  The women really inspired me to reach high. They were very influential women in high positions within their respective fields—-what energy that room held for that hour!  So yeah, lots of fun and a great venue to showcase my designs.

As for tomorrow….yeah!!! I got new fabric in the mail today and I know I will lose sleep tonight thinking of the new bags I am going to sew and design with it.  I got a red and white polkodot that is the same scale as the Orange Dot on the website, and it just screams “SUMMER.”  How fun it will be to work with and pick out clothes to wear with it?? And in the afternoon, I get to start up my little girl dresses, called the “Olive dress”  with some new characters, an owl, hippo, bird and turtle. My aunt Jannell drew them up and then I will get to experiment with them: can’t wait to get started and have something to add to the www.shoprsd.com website.  Now for some sleep so I can wake up with even more brand new ideas ;)

What Makes me Really Happy…

Hello Everyone,

I decided that a couple of times a month I am going to write about what makes me happy. People often ask me “what makes you so happy?”, so I thought why not write about who and what makes me glow and smile all over?  Please feel free to respond with what makes you happy, I would love to see the feedback and get ideas ;)

My Family

What makes me happy today?

Hearing our son Gus wake up saying, “Mommy, mommy, mommy.’  I love to hear his little voice calling me to duty in the morning: makes me feel alive and well-loved.  And then when he smiles and opens his arms for me, I get really excited.  Mostly he just wants breakfast, but the romantic part of me thinks its just me that he wants!  What makes you happy in the morning?

2nd-  (You know I will have a lot of these!)  Sewing with new fabrics for the day.  I don’t mind sewing styles and fabrics I have used before, but I literally lose sleep if I know I get to sew a new fabric or style in the morning.  It just makes me really happy.  I love to play with new colors and designs and new styles.  I love dreaming big about who will carry this one and which one of my customers will love the new fabrics and styles.  And then of course which one I will pick for myself!  I just ordered this red and white polka dot that is the same scale as the Orange Dot on the website, and I can’t wait to see it and play with it.  It will be ADORABLE for spring and summer.  That’s all from me for now……. what makes you glow?
