Oh summer!

What an awesome evening we just had! I took my little family unit, Gus and Ivy for a picnic on our farm. We packed hotdogs, yogurt, oreo cookies, bananas, and milk—it was perfect! (Except I might have packed more oreos and chocolate and maybe a diet coke, but it was perfect for my toddler ;)   We then packed our blanket and of course a soccer ball, Gus LOVES sports, so we never go anywhere without a ball, some kids need blankies for comfort, Gus needs a ball!

It was really a romantic scene with the two of them as we picnice– well sort-of.  The bugs were out, the hotdots got cold, and the sun was really hot, but I have a feeling Gus will never forget it,-okay he’s three-chances are he will, but I like to think he won’t ;)  I was just so proud of myself for thinking of the picnic and then actually doing it.  When I settled them both down for the night, Gus told me- Mommy, we need to do a picnic again- even further away on the farm and let’s bring Daddy!  (Daddy has softball on Wednesday nights ;).  So yes it was perfect and I will do that again for my soul’s good and for my kids memories.

As for work— still loving it!  We are busy getting some new fabrics for fall in and thinking up some new styles, more of the messenger style but smaller for grab and go.  Also  we have made up about 5 different baby boy booties and we are still working out the kinks to put them into production and get them made up, they are super cute so far. They are all different plaids, with navy blue, black or brown leather- we are calling them….”Gus Stompers”!! I just love the name of course, thanks to my Aunt Jannell who thought of the cute and very appropiate name, little boys do tend to stomp don’t they?

We are making scarves like crazy as well…we will try to keep you updated via the website and facebook about what stores have them and where to buy them.  We have great plaids and new neon plaids as well, I have already “claimed” 2 of them and I’m making my sister hold off for the customers to buy first!  The sewing closet is full of bags getting ready for Okoboji Art Show on August 7th, and River Boat Days in Yankton SD on August 20-22nd.  Can’t wait for both, we love seeing customers and seeing their reaction to our new things.  By the way, book your fall trunk shows now, we are filling up really fast, into Oct and Nov. already!  Email us at rebekahscottdesigns@yahoo.com and we can chit chat about dates!

So that’s the latest from the Scott household and RSD.  I am dreaming as big as ever, I made a goal on my vision board to “design fabric.”  So some day- down the road I will do it, just gotta let it happen.  Thanks God for making it possible to dream this big, I know You have my back!

Seeing Dreams come true for others…

I find myself getting emotional just thinking about writing this story.  My mom is a master seamstress; she taught me everything I know about sewing.  She has been sewing since she was little.  This year so far has proved very exciting for her and her journey of happiness.

Ever since I started my business I have been praying that somehow my mom would be able to start her own business and gain confidence in her skills.  And my prayers and dreams for her are coming true.

You may have noticed the home décor link on the website explaining that Peggy Eggers handles that  side of things.  It is so exciting for me to see her succeed and really do what she loves.

When I speak for different groups, I talk a lot about your own passions and how to discover them and then how to  reach them.  I ask the people in attendance to ask themselves two questions, first what were you doing when you were four? And second, what is the first thing you think about in the morning?  Because chances are that is where your passions lie and probably where God has gifted you.  I use my mom as an example because at 4 when she was playing paper dolls with her 4 sisters, she was busy rearranging the cut out furniture and cutting out different fabric samples for her house.  She wasn’t as interested in the paper dolls, but their house with the furniture and curtains.  She loves decorating and sewing window treatments–  and I mean she loves it like I love my work and that means- a lot.  I lose sleep when I have a new idea for a new design, she decides not to sleep and just start the project, even in the middle of night.   My family and her sisters often tease her about how often she changes her home to fit her newest inspiration. (They don’t tease her however when she helps them change their homes!)

This last year has really got the ball rolling for her because she officially started sewing window treatments outside her inner circle.   Her business is called “Affordable Elegance.”   And the name really sums up what she aims to do.  She aims to please her customers and change their homes “look” without breaking the bank.  It’s like she often says, “It doesn’t have be to expensive to look expensive.”

I love seeing her grin from ear to ear when she is telling me about the latest project she is working on and how she envisions it completed.  She is very good at helping the home owner narrow down the look they are going for and how to go about pursuing it affordably.

If the only reason I am succeeding at my love of designing is so that she could see herself succeeding at what she loves, then it has been worth every minute.

She’s bubbly, knowledgeable and already in love with your home.   Meet Peggy Eggers, and get ready to be inspired.

My first autographs!!!

Well it has happened, I have been signing autographs.  It’s not exactly my first,–I did sign a mug from one of my third grade teachers when I went back home recently.  I made this cross-stitched mug for her when I was in her third grade class.  So anyway, my mailman asked that I sign the magazine for him and give him a copy, so yah, you could say I felt a little excited.  (Okay, I felt elated!) And of course my Grandmas and parents are big fans as well.  I have been given lots of “congrats” and “way to go’s” on facebook which is fun to see also.  Feel free to add me as a friend on face book, I give 10% off to my facebook friends.  Just use coupon code “facebook” when ordering.

As I write this I am on a roadtrip with my sister, Sarah to Fort Pierre for the Zonta Art show.  She is gracious enough to let me use her laptop to record my thoughts. We have been laughing and catching up. She and I thought of this little slogan to describe my week so far (please insert jock jam of choice and slight megaphone voice here)  “ From the tumbleweed country of Philip SD to the cover of a MN magazine, REBEKAH SCOTT.  (yes I realized a little over the top but we are so thrilled with the publicity!)It’s just crazy to see my dreams starting to really expand and see my vision and mission roll out before my very eyes.

The women featured in the article of the magazine are women in my life who have really made a difference to me. My sister, mom, cousin, best friend in highschool, passion group members and the photographer is also a good friend. These gals have cheered me on and really helped me plan ahead and help realize my dreams.

What Makes me Really Happy…

Hello Everyone,

I decided that a couple of times a month I am going to write about what makes me happy. People often ask me “what makes you so happy?”, so I thought why not write about who and what makes me glow and smile all over?  Please feel free to respond with what makes you happy, I would love to see the feedback and get ideas ;)

My Family

What makes me happy today?

Hearing our son Gus wake up saying, “Mommy, mommy, mommy.’  I love to hear his little voice calling me to duty in the morning: makes me feel alive and well-loved.  And then when he smiles and opens his arms for me, I get really excited.  Mostly he just wants breakfast, but the romantic part of me thinks its just me that he wants!  What makes you happy in the morning?

2nd-  (You know I will have a lot of these!)  Sewing with new fabrics for the day.  I don’t mind sewing styles and fabrics I have used before, but I literally lose sleep if I know I get to sew a new fabric or style in the morning.  It just makes me really happy.  I love to play with new colors and designs and new styles.  I love dreaming big about who will carry this one and which one of my customers will love the new fabrics and styles.  And then of course which one I will pick for myself!  I just ordered this red and white polka dot that is the same scale as the Orange Dot on the website, and I can’t wait to see it and play with it.  It will be ADORABLE for spring and summer.  That’s all from me for now……. what makes you glow?
