My First Book!

Throne_Scott_Equipped-to-Execute_2D-Cover.jpgThis is one of my proudest moments: I, Rebekah Scott, am writing my first book, and it will be published this year around Mother's Day!

I am so excited about this — and so exhausted! It has been a labor of love, and I do mean labor. I started the book in January, I’m in the nitty gritty writing part now, and the plan is to have it published next month. This means work, work, work!

My book is titled Equipped to Execute: Guiding Moms to Joyfully Impact Family and Business.” It’s a book and workbook combined, so work-at-home moms can literally fill in the blanks for what I’m suggesting. I tell my full story of Rebekah Scott Designs, and I help others discover what their story might be and how to pursue it. Think of it like a field guide!

I wrote Equipped to Execute to answer the question I receive all the time: “How do you do it? How do you raise four kids and run a growing business?” I needed to give an answer in writing, both for others and for myself. It’s been so encouraging to reflect how God has blessed me over these 14 years, with all the ups and downs, joys and struggles.

The primary audience for my book is moms who want to stay at home as mompreneurs, but I would say that anyone who wants to start an at-home business could benefit from things I’ve learned over the years.

There are eight chapters, and it’s a very approachable read. (So moms, you can easily pick it up between diaper changes and loads of laundry!) The chapters include topics like how to make key decisions, how to hone in your super skills, overcoming fear, goal setting, priorities, and more. To give you a general idea about the book, a lot of the content is similar to what I’m covering in the current season of The Encourager podcast.

Writing a book has been a great experience, but the one aspect I didn’t anticipate was that I would feel super exposed. This book in particular includes my stories of failure (and triumph!), plus writing a book itself is also a really big step, so it’s all a bit scary. But, I’m more than willing to share if it helps others! Plus, I’m not pregnant or nursing, so this is the year to write a book! :)

I also hope to write more in the future, wanting to reach as many people as possible with my message of encouragement. I’ve been so inspired by other local writers like Melissa Johnson (of Oh My Cupcakes) and Adam Weber, a good friend of mine who wrote Talking With God. I can't express how grateful I am for their examples!

Like I said at the beginning, the release date will be in May, sometime close to Mother’s Day. Starting today, April 21, you can pre-order a copy by going to theencouragerbook.com or equippedtoexecute.com. On top of that, there is a whole list of other exciting options you might consider:

  • eBook
  • softcover
  • signed softcover
  • signed softcover with limited edition wristlet
  • signed book with limited edition Lia
  • recognition in book credits
  • one-day workshop with Bekah
  • speaking engagement

I’m excited about all these promotions, but especially the one-day workshop. The workshop includes a signed book, a full day working through a system of “Family, Work, Food, and Me,” as well as help blocking one week for a successful launch of your business. I can’t wait to sit with mommies and dive into their businesses!

To wrap up, I have to include one hilarious fact about this book. In order to make one of the first payments, we sold a cow!! If you really want something, you can find a way!

Happy reading!
Love, Bekah
