Summer Shows

Don’t get me wrong — I absolutely love that we have an awesome website where people can design their own purses. But for me, nothing beats seeing customers face to face!

That’s why I love Show Season. I love summer in general — all the family time in June, counting the baby calves, walking to the pond, and celebrating the Fourth of July. On top of this, I love summer because it is packed with art shows!

It’s at shows that I get to talk directly to customers and help them find exactly what they’re looking for. My favorite part is seeing their immediate response when they get to take home the perfect bag. It’s also so fun to see the same people each year and get updates on how they’re doing. And I love seeing the pregnant ladies come back the next year with a newborn!

This year, we introduced two West River shows. I am from Philip, SD, so I’m always super excited to get to the other side of the state! We loved Oahe Days in Pierre, and this weekend, we’ll have a booth set up at Festival in the Park in Spearfish.

I chose to take a break from these shows for the last few years because it’s a six-hour drive, and bringing little kids that far was just too much work. Now the kids are getting older, and our customers out west have been asking us to get back out there, so we’ve made it happen!

Just a side note: I talk a lot on my podcast and in my book about the importance of priorities, so I thought I’d mention that I always keep show trips a maximum of four days. Otherwise, I return home to emotional mayhem! If I took any longer than that, I’d be neglecting one of my priorities.

I savored the extended family time in June, because July and August are when weekends really fill up!

We just finished one of our biggest shows: the Brookings Summer Arts Festival, July 8-9. Ahh, this is always such a fun one! It is so well run, and it attracts such a large crowd! I love seeing so may people who come out to support artisans. It always seems to be the hottest weekend, but that never stops people from traveling from all over for this awesome event. Thanks to all who stopped to see us!

This coming weekend, July 13-16, Rebekah Scott Designs has two shows: the Downtown Street Fair in Fargo, ND, and the Festival in the Park in Spearfish, SD. My sister Sarah and I literally drew straws to see who would do which one! So if you’re closer to Fargo, come see me, and if you’re in the Hills, go visit Sarah! We both wanted to do both shows because each is so great. Just recently one of Fargo’s magazines, Fargo Inc., featured me since RSD has come to the Street Fair so many years. I thought it was cool they recognized an out-of-stater!

Our next shows after that include Mart in the Park (Madison, SD), Old Fashioned Saturday (Parkston, SD), Art in the Park(Okoboji, IA), Yankton Riverboat Days (Yankton, SD), and the SD State Fair (Huron, SD). Several of these are one-day shows, so I’ll get to bring a kiddo with me! I only sign up for my favorite art shows, so you can trust that all of these would be great to visit. And stop by to see me and whoever I’ve got with me at the RSD booth!

Lastly, since we also just celebrated July Fourth, I want to close by saying that I’m so grateful for all who serve our country, and I’m grateful to make and sell American products in this country that has been so uniquely blessed.
