The Spirit of the West
The Pioneer Spirit is much larger than the story of the American West. In fact, the term is 1000 years old, and it literally means “one who goes on foot.” Take a minute. Think about going anywhere. Near or far. Now picture doing that on foot. For 900 of the last 1000 years that is how humans headed to a better life, on foot. It takes a lot more than a good pair of shoes and some sunscreen. There is a fortitude, a drive, a grit that we don’t always run into. It was risky. Often it was the only path forward in life, to pick up camp and walk to a better life. It is about taking the first step.
